hot in the city.

Summer is almost over, and my stint in the city is over.
As I finished up, it was bittersweet finishing up at Jive,
and even leaving the city I called home for the summer, New York.

The last few weeks of the summer have been a whirlwind.
It felt like company was in town every weekend, making the summer fly by.
With that, I'm about to take you on a magic carpet ride of the last month.

4th of July I flew home to Dallas for a break from the city.
Spent 5 days at the Lake House, gourged on cheez-its and Diet Coke
and enjoyed the silence (cue the Depeche Mode).

*****

My cousin Brad and crew came in for a quick visit.
Opting for plays, kayaks, and bikes.

I worked a little.
*****
My boss had a retreat, and ended it with a BBQ at his beach house:
on the Jersey Shore.
I was snookin' for Snookie (seriously, I tweeted her to come over!)
we had delicious food catered by Ariane Duarte, from Top Chef.
The french fries- the next best thing to being non-virginal (or what I would assume)

And enjoyed the company of Joshua Radin,
who was enjoying the sun, sangria, and sweltering heat.
Before he left the party, he strummed a few songs a la backyard jam session.
Overall, had an excellent time with all of the Jive Promo Dept.
Great trek out and back to Manhattan w/ Randy aka "DJ Raize"
(who got mugged the night before. gnarce)

*****

That week my friend Ashley came for a visit.
Cruised around Central Park, she paroozed every museum possible,
and I joined for the Frick Collection which was beautiful...
Then, I completed my internship, with a sushi infused lunch meeting w. the bossman.
I learned loads from everybody over the summer.
And was truly enlightened during the meeting on:
-the whereabouts the industry is heading
-where I can be looking for future careers
-In depth knowledge on the make-up of a label as a whole
-how much say an artist truly has
-and how great of an intern I was!
...I'm pretty sure I made that one up, but I think I was exemplary...

*****

I moved for a third time in three months.
But lived with some of the best people.
...celebrated my birthday, a Robyn concert (that I'm still on a high from), and Court's bday.

laughed way too much & stayed up entirely too late.

and soaked up as much of New York City before I said goodbye...
what, it was hot! sometimes you get a bit delirious!

....I'll come back to you, don't you worry.

Potty Talk.

Before you think this is all about dirty talk [Courtney] kidding! It's not.
When I thought the days of my mom telling me to leave the toilet seat down,
and telling my little sister to clean the bathroom are over;
I'm sadly mistaken.
My first couple weeks at work, I noticed that the bathroom was a WRECK.
I mean, I've been to a un-flushed urinal plenty of times, but I'm at a corporation, right?
As if the urinals weren't bad enough, most of the stalls are usually left w/ umm
{special surprises!}
I think the custodial crew is tired of the crazy antics that these grown men,
or whom I once thought were grown,
have been up to and decided to leave a friendly little reminder to the 14th floor:

Note: I had to go covert to snap this photo.
They are plastered near the urinals and stalls.
I ninja-ed this crap (no pun intended).

Please, lay off the kush, and flush!

Time Out: NY

It's been nearly 2 months since I've been in the city, and since blog number 1 is dedicated to what's really important in life, music, I've decided to make a new one about my time in New York and next Italy.

I got to the city on a Saturday night, spent the rest of the weekend getting acquainted with the place and where my office was, and started work on Monday. Daunting as it was to move across the country, walking into the building was even more scary--first day of school jitters were in full force. The office is great. A montage of all Jive artists line the elevator entry and all a long the halls are photos of the artists and multiple awards and accomplishments. Such Jive Label Group (JLG) artists include: Ciara, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, P!nk, Jordin Sparks, David Archuleta, Hot Chelle Rae, Sia, Joshua Radin, Sleigh Bells, Matisse, Metric, and many more. Some of my tasks include printing BDS (Nielsen) ratings for my boss Joe, the VP of Pop Promotions, as well as the CEO of RCA/Jive, Barry Weiss. I highlight the rankings of all Jive and RCA artists and hand out the proper reports to each member of the Promo team, and Barry.

My first week at the office, I met JLS, and went to a showcase for Miguel. The showcase was at Santos Partyhouse, and it was a bit pathetic, on my part. Kacee came with me, and luckily for her it was open bar. Since I took the short bus that day, I assumed I could get all the Diet Coke or Red Bull I wanted, right? Wrong. I ordered my Red Bull after Kacee got her free drink with Ciroc, and the bartender says "$5 dollars." Trick please, I thought, pulled out my money and stood in the corner with Kacee. Miguel came on, did his 5 song set where J. Cole joined him for "All I Want is You." (Pretty decent jam) and then we left. Week 1 = Success.

Some other things that have happened around the office, the likes of Miguel Ciara, and Jay-Z have graced our floor.
-On a day I pulled the BDS reports, apparently a date was wrong-- Big Boo Boo. (Although it wasn't my fault)
-I've made some great friends, intern and supervisors (who have taught me a lot more about the industry and helped steer me in the direction I want to go)
-Attended another showcase this week for Ry Cuming where I was introduced by one of my good supervisors to one of the best in the field of A&R- Teresa LaBarbera Whites, which was such a great experience, especially to talk to someone so successful and inspiring, yet so down to earth.
-Eaten lunch out WAY too much.
- Ran some errands around midtown
-Learned A LOT

More to come on the latest going on outside of the office. Until then--Shalom.
